Author visit
The author Kevin O’Malley visited Timber Lane on April 10th. He presented during two different assemblies. Mr. O’Malley told stories through drawing. He also asked the students questions to help drive the story. This taught the students that they have full control of their own creativity when it comes to their writing. During each assembly Mr. O’Malley led the students through a full story that they all created together through the use of drawings and creativity. The students absolutely enjoyed the assemblies and were fully engaged through the forty five minute segments.

Field Trip
The sixth graders went on a field trip to the National Building Museum. They participated in the Drawing on History Tour. The students investigated the building and drew sketches of important clues based on the architecture and symbolic plaques and pictures within the building. The goal of the investigation was to figure out why the building was built over 125 years ago. Its original purpose was certainly not for a museum. The students also had to answer history questions along the way to infer why certain aspects of the building were the way they are. At the end of the investigation all of the students were able to figure out what the original use of the building was and why through the use of their sketches and clues.
